New CD Projekt RED RPG: Cyberpunk
Looks like our initial impressions of CD Project RED’s first teaser image were correct, so correct in fact that they decided to take our guess as a title (I kid). CD Project RED’s newly announced RPG project will be called Cyberpunk based on the Cyberpunk universe created by Mike Pondsmith.
CD Projekt co-founder Marcin Iwinski promised players that this game would have all of the hallmarks of the Witcher series that has made the developer so well-known and loved. Their upcoming RPG will be designed for mature and demanding players who expect to be treated seriously, and the game will be richly detailed, non-linear, and with a complex and gripping story. Following in the general pattern of the RPG players will experience the game as one of many different classes, money motivated killing machine, honorable hacking genius or the much-loved cybernetic samurai all promise to be archetypes. As in the Witcher series, players will face morally ambiguous choices, their actions influencing events in the world at large and the fate of the individuals they encounter.
Promising to push the envelope and set a new precedent for futuristic RPGs, this game will be developed by a new team at CD Projekt RED Studio, composed of veterans from the Witcher franchise.
At this point, 2013 is the only (tentative) timetable we have for a release date.
